Wait, Who’s Urinating on My Skin?
Marketed as an additive that moisturizes, urea is a common ingredient in many skin care products. But doesn’t the name sound a little familiar? Yes, you guessed it. Urea is a bi-product of urine. Yuck. Well, don’t fret too much. The urea found in beauty products is sort of a fake-urine, manufactured by chemists. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean urea is necessarily safe. One of the ingredients in urea is ammonia, which can be fatal if inhaled in large doses. In addition, inhalation of ammonia can cause corrosive damage to the esophagus, lungs, eyes, and skin.
